Over 30 members of the university of Delaware ACHA DI and DII men's hockey teams participated in the 4th annual CureSearch Cancer Walk to benefit Childhood Cancer research this past Saturday, Sept. 24th at the Wilmington Riverfront.

Brett Land, age 2, was diagnosed with Pre-T-Cell Leukemia in December 2010, and since then has undergone chemotherapy, a bone narrow transplant, and full radiation to combat this disease. Brett is currently in remission from this disease but continues weekly treatments and monitoring.
The Land family has a unique connection to UD Hockey as Brett's father, Jason, works as a school teacher alongside Assistant Coach Jesse McNulty at William Penn High School in New Castle, Delaware.
CureSearch for Children's Cancer is a national non-profit foundation whose mission is to fund and support children's cancer research and provide information and resources to all those affected by children's cancer. For the second season in a row, East Carolina will be skating uphill when it takes the ice in 2011-12. Last season, the Pirates were confronted with a higher caliber of non-varsity hockey after shifting from the Division III Blue Ridge Hockey Conference to the Division II Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Hockey's new South Division where they joined three ranked Southeast Region teams. After going 1-6-1 in division play and falling short of .500 hockey overall, this season's schedule will give ECU even more to chew on.

A New Name and Playoff Format are Adopted
Posted By: Mid-Atlantic
Friday, July 08, 2011 | |||
Beginning with the 2011-2012 ice hockey season, the Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Hockey Association (MACHA) will be known as Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Hockey, or as The Mid-Atlantic.
The league will also adopt a new playoff format for both divisions within the Mid-Atlantic. The championship series will be known as the Mid-Atlantic MACH V and will feature the top five teams from each division competing intra-divisionally toward two division champions. Following the ACHA SouthEast Regionals, the Mid-Atlantic will host a championship game between the two division winners at a site that will be determined at a later date.
We are confident the name change will clarify any confusion created by two leagues within ACHA D2 ranks with the same acronym, while also allowing our league to retain its own unique identity. The Mid-Atlantic name continues the original tradition of excellence both on and off the ice.
